What we do

I L O E M A curates and fosters modern encounters and creative dialogues between artisans and contemporary artists to preserve and honour the art of Spanish embroidery.

All our pieces are unique, handmade and produced according to order.

100% made by Spanish Artisans.

We created ILOEMA with the intention of preserving and giving visibility to Spain's rich and varied textile tradition connecting it with the relevance of contemporary art.

What we are

We are editors and curators of textile art editions. Our role as editors begins with an important reflection exercise. Depending on the embroidery technique we want to work with, we think of the artist who will best understand that language. They are artists who are new to this medium.

In our latest edition working with gold embroidery, the sinuous metallic curves and floating volumes of Blanca Muñoz’ work made the path to collaborate with her very clear. Similarly, we decide the type of pieces that are made in every edition, in this case a folding screen and a sculpture, something that we agree with the artist to then finally proceed to identify the workshop with which we want to work.

Why we do it

We created Iloema with the intention of preserving and giving visibility to Spain's rich and varied textile tradition connecting it with the relevance of contemporary art.

Like most expressions of craftsmanship in developed countries, embroidery is disappearing in Spain as there isn’t a new generation of embroiders in the making. The pressing challenge is to make this ancient craft relevant again so it can capture the hearts of future artisans.
